Growing paddy (which is what rice comes from) without synthetic pesticides is no easy task. That’s because paddy usually grows in standing water and water attracts all kinds of insects, including some that love to feed on the crop.

But our collective of women farmers in Karnataka does things differently. They don’t use a single drop of synthetic pesticide. Instead, they rely on natural bio-inputs made from neem, chilli, garlic, and other time-tested ingredients from traditional farming.

What’s more, our paddy is irrigated only by monsoon rains, not groundwater. Why does that matter? In some regions, groundwater can contain arsenic, which may build up in the rice and harm your health over time. By using rainwater, we reduce that risk significantly.

Every single batch of paddy we source is lab-tested for 230 synthetic pesticide residues and arsenic at NABL-accredited labs.
