Goodness begins at the growth stage.
Arsenic is a heavy metal carcinogen that accumulates in groundwater and soil.
Crops like Paddy (from which rice is made) are grown in standing water and absorb high levels of arsenic.
Our rice is grown in canal-irrigated fields, and without using any chemical pesticides.
We also test the paddy for pesticides and arsenic, just to be 100% sure.

So what magic do our farmers weave?
They use a variety of bio-inputs and crop planning techniques (including ingeniously encouraging friendly predator insects like ladybird beetles) to keep these pests at bay.

We focus on retaining the nutritional value of our pulses, instead of making them look pretty. Polishing strips Dals of their nutrition. By not polishing them, we retain essential minerals, vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. Our unpolished dals have higher fiber and retain their natural flavour besides being pesticide-free.
If not synthetic pesticides then what?
Our farmers do not use any synthetic pesticides to grow food. Instead they implement a delicate, carefully planned set of practices like soil preparation, mixed cropping, application of bio-inputs, trap crops (like marigold), pheromone traps, and sticky pads to ward off pests in different ways. They also take adequate care to harvest and store the crops without any chemicals.
